Under These Friday Night Lights

Half-time buzz in the cool air,

chain-link fence cold on my back.

Stadium smoke from the grill drips,

cleats on gravel crunch down the track.

One-way bus ticket in my hand, band off key on our fight song.

Ink starts to bleed sweat on my hand.

Whole town shouting that same song.

I feel my chest finally loosening.
